Spa Avania is located at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Gainey Ranch, a small oasis in the Scottsdale desert. It’s about 21,000 sq. ft. with 19 treatment rooms and a team of excellent staff (it was named one of the “Best Spas in the World” in 2014 by Condé Nast Traveler). Their main focus is to treat the mind, body and rejuvenate —and that’s exactly how I felt when I left.

When I was told that the suggested time to arrive was two hours prior to my massage, I was not quite sure why–but was glad I did. After a quick change into something more comfortable, my day started on a lounge chair by the outdoor French Celtic Mineral Pool with a drink of infused fruit water in hand. In that moment, I felt like I was away from it all and ready to relax.

At the time of my massage, what better way to personalize my experience than selecting the right lighting, music and the best oils to use during my incredible treatment. Shortly after my massage, I met back with my wife at the mineral pool and I could tell she was in the same zen level as I was after her hot stone massage.

After our blissful day, we headed to SWB restaurant located in the main lobby of the hotel for a Southwestern-inspired chefs tasting experience. Even if you aren’t staying at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale, it’s the perfect place to spend the day enjoying the best things in life with relaxation at the spa and then a great dining experience thereafter.

I'm a Caracas native, living in Chicago. I have a passion for travel, culture, food, adventure and discovering new places off the beaten path. I still remember the first trip I took internationally as a child and the excitement that it was to know that everyone will speak another language. Traveling was cool—waking up early to make the trip to the airport, packing too much and then realizing it’s much better to pack light. Now a travel writer, I get to see new places continually, check out new restaurants, and talk about my experiences. Just as I’m about to be done with a trip, I see myself at the airport daydreaming while staring at the departure board thinking about my next destination.
