If one thing is certain, Chicago is one of the best foodie towns. The West Loop is becoming one of our favorite neighborhoods and we can’t help but notice a renaissance when it comes to the bustling food scene. This brings us to Steadfast—the latest fine dining restaurant from the Fifty/50 restaurant group. Housed in the historic Kimpton Gray Hotel, a 19th-century landmark, Steadfast is surely becoming a favorite of both locals and visitors alike. Here are 5 of our favorite things we tried from Executive Chef Ender Oktayuren on our last visit—that you definitely won’t want to miss.
Steadfast’s Artisan Breads
Be warned: you won’t want to pass on the bread and it will be tough to decide which one to choose. Enjoy baguettes, za’ atar sourdough, and cheddar pretzel, among others, and top it with their incredible butter (honey Oaxacan or winter truffle were favorites) or oil (herb, lemon, and dill or sundried tomato).
Lobster Bisque
This memorable lobster bisque is one of the best we’ve ever had. Even if you aren’t a soup person per se, you’ll be impressed. The bisque is slowly poured over peppers, lobster, and other ingredients that will delight your taste buds.
Caviar Service
Take part in this particular caviar service, and you are in for a special treat that is sure to impress. Set in a beautiful presentation, choose from white sturgeon, kristal, or golden osetra with traditional accouterments like quail eggs and tiny toast.
Roasted Duck
For those looking for a unique dish, look no further than the roasted duck. This beautiful entree is a must-try, and perfect to share with the table alongside some of our other favorite dishes including the halibut (risotto, parsley, escargot) and sea scallops (foraged mushrooms, preserved lemon, sauce vierge).
Seriously Unique Cocktails
Whether you’re popping by for a happy hour or staying for dinner, there’s a cocktail for every taste at Steadfast. If you’re a whiskey fan, be sure to check out their aged Pappy Van Winkle Whiskeys from the 1930s to 1970s. A cocktail fan? Try one of our favorites, the Curtain Call (Ketel One OR Tanqueray, Lillet Rose, Wild Rose, Rose Ice) for a little fairy-tale come-to-life.
While you are in Chicago, check out 10 things everyone has to do. There’s so much to experience in summer as well as winter! Also, free is always good so don’t miss Chicago museum free days. Some of our favorite immersive museums to visit besides the Shedd Aquarium, Museum of Contemporary Art and the Art Institute include the wndr Museum, and Hebru Brantley’s Nevermore Park in Pilsen.
