Imagine you get several weeks off during the holidays, and instead of spending the entire time slumped on mom and dad’s couch, you jet off to one of these fab vacation spots. We’ve got some pretty unique accommodations in mind, from lavish digs in NYC to sleeping under the stars and spotting the Northern Lights (from your bed in an igloo) in Finland.

The holidays in NYC are no doubt magical—with festive activities like the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. But let’s talk accommodations. You’ll want something lavish, so may we suggest a stay at Langham Place, Fifth Avenue? Not only will you be in one of the most coveted addresses in town, but guests can also be driven around in the hotel’s Maserati.

In Chicago, who needs to stay at a run-of-the-mill hotel when you can stay in an actual Frank Lloyd Wright—one of the most famous architects known to man? It’s the only Wright property you can stay at in Illinois, and it’s near the lake. Not great for basking in the sun mid-winter—though you can still admire its snow-covered beauty. For a unique holiday, there’s no other place we’d rather stay.

If you’ve ever wanted to know what if feels like to own your own villa, then you must book a stay at Las Alamandas. The luxury resort has six villas and can only accommodate about 30 people at a time. If you go during low season, then voila, you may be the only ones there. Daily meals made and brought to your villa, your own private beach, and panoramic views of the ocean make this a top pick.

Just an hour and a half from London, the Cotswolds in the English countryside is the perfect destination for a unique holiday. Our accommodations of choice are located in the historic town of Tetbury. Picture this: a sprawling estate from the 18th century, beautifully maintained gardens, and a cozy inn with a library to nestle up to your favorite book this season. A true dream destination.

Views of the majestic Matterhorn, a boutique-hotel feel (only 16 guest rooms), a comfortable bar, and a memorable destination all make for the best holiday trip. The Europe Hotel and Spa in Zermatt, Switzerland, offers guests an incredible European-style breakfast, spa facilities with steam bath and sauna, and scrumptious meals in its restaurant, making it a trip you won’t forget.

The Giardino Mountain Hotel is set in one of the most elegant resort towns: St. Moritz. There, you will find 78 elegant Alpine-design guest rooms, a luxury spa, the Freestyle Academy (a hip spot for your angst-ridden teens to hang out), and three luxury restaurants.

For true winter lovers, a stay at Hotel Kakslauttanen, near Urho Kekkonen National Park in Finland, would be a dream come true. Who wouldn’t want to look up at the stars from their own snow igloo? Book this spot because it’s the best place to view the Northern Lights (from your bed, no less!).
